Women from the PTA whisper, they sideways glance when I walk by And say look how far she's fallen and ain't it just appalling why they gossip in the grocery line But a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do cause there's always a rent to pay And when your kids need new shoes there's nothing left to do but put your pride away But I fly over this town when the skies bleed and the bars are closed down And I still hope and I pray for something someday I tried cleaning houses and working at the dollar mart But to see my baby boys go hungry very nearly broke my heart And I'm not cheap and I'm not easy I'm just parading my groceries And I can handle calls and stares but just a few more years till no one wants to look at me But I fly over this town when the skies bleed and the bars are closed down And I still hope and I pray for something someday I'd like to stop here after working for some kindness and a cup of joe And the waitress here is always nice to me even though I think she knows And she always asks me how I'm doing if my kids caught that awful flu But she put her hand on my head and said honey you just do what you gotta do But I fly over this town when the skies bleed and the bars are closed down And I still hope and I pray for something someday
